Take a morning flight from the UK, arriving into San Jose late afternoon the same day. Private transfer from the airport into the bustling central valley city of San Jose where you spend the first two nights.
San Jose and surroundings
Choice of excursions from San Jose. You may wish to take a tour of San Jose, or travel outside the city to take in some white water rafting on the Reventazon river, or a tour to a coffee plantation, waterfall and Poas volcano.
Choice of excursions around Arenal. Trips available include a visit to the Arenal volcano to walk on its slopes and may be rewarded by some big rumbles. You can also visit some hot springs on the side of the volcano to soak in the mineral rich water heated by the geothermal activity. Mountain biking and beautiful night walks are possible too.
Arenal to Monteverde
The journey is an adventure in itself starting by road along Lake Arenal, then crossing the lake by boat. The remainder of the journey to Monteverde is made by road. On arrival you can explore the small community of Santa Elena and maybe the hummingbird gallery or cheese factory. Spend two nights in the area.
Monteverde and Santa Elena
Birds rule this world and the amazing vocalisations of bell-birds with the resplendent quetzal flashing through the trees have to be experienced to be believed. Well-maintained trails make exploring this reserve a delight. There are a number of ways you can explore the forest including by canopy tour and horse rides.
Monteverde to Manuel Antonio
The drive down to Manuel Antonio on the Pacific Coast takes three to four hours. Spend three nights in Manuel Antonio.
At leisure to enjoy Manuel Antonio's pristine beaches backed by rainforest and explore the national park.

Depart Costa Rica
Your transfer takes you from Manuel Antonio back to San Jose airport where you pick up your flight and travel overnight back to the UK arriving on Day 11.
